PCHS Choir Handbook
2012-2013
Class objectives:
- Students will experience a wide variety of genres and periods of vocal music
- Students will learn to read music, and strengthen said skills
- Students will become functioning independent musicians
- Students will learn more about the voice, and become familiar with their own
Daily Expectations:
- Students will be in their assigned seat with their folders when the bell rings
- Students will bring their folders, music, and a pencil to class
- Students will remain seated until dismissed by teacher, not the bell
School Policies:
Handbook policies regarding academic dishonesty, dress code, absences, tardies, and electronic devices will be enforced. Please refer to the
student handbook for those policies.
Classroom Rules:
-Respect others.
-Take care of your belongings, your classmates’ belongings, and the school’s belongings.
-Listen when someone else is talking. You could learn something!
-Be in your seat with your folder when the bell rings.
-Always have a pencil.
-Encourage your fellow classmates!
-If other classmates are working on their part, remain quiet
Discipline Policy:
1ST Offense- Warning.
2nd Offense- 30 minute detention with me
3rd Offense- Call home/parental or guardian conference
Performance Expectations:
-Arrive on time in the correct location in proper attire
- Be a professional: don’t horse around during a concert or be a distraction while
listening to other ensembles.
- Have your music prepared.
.Performance Dress:
-Students will be expected to abide by the following dress codes for concerts, unless notified otherwise.
-Ladies: A black dress, or a black skirt and white top
-Gentlemen: Black dress pants, and a white collared shirt
Attendance policy:
Each day, students are awarded 5 participation points. If the student is absent, excused or unexcused, he or she will lose those points. Each student is crucial to a group rehearsal. Multiple extra credit assignments will be given each semester for those looking to earn back daily points. Come talk to me if you are concerned about grades. I will be more than happy to help!
Concerts make up a large portion of students’ grades. If a student is aware that he or she will miss a concert, they are to submit a written notification at least two weeks prior to the performance. If they fail to do so, they will not be able to earn points lost for not attending the performance. Excused students will be given an alternative assignment, and an appropriate deadline

92 -100 A
88 - 89 B+
82 - 87 B
80 - 81 B -
78 -79 C+
72 - 77 C
70 - 71 C -
68 - 69 D+
62 - 67 D
60 - 62 D –
59 and lower F
Grading Policy:
In the event of written work, a part or skills test, students will be allowed to turn in late work with the deduction of 10% each day. In the even of a part or skills test, students will be allowed one week from the assigned day to complete. If a common time cannot be found between the student and myself, I will be available on a weekend, or give the student extended time. For further rules regarding makeup work, please refer to the student handbook
